"APT 6": What I think of as the "6th International Neoist Apartment Festival" or, more simply, "APT 6", was held in Montréal from February 21st to 27th, 1983. This was during the 1st decade of Neoism when the apartment festivals were fairly frequent. For me, it was at these festivals when what was interesting & vital about Neoism occurred. It was the feeling & actuality of cultural conspiracy that was so stimulating. The co-conspirators were excited, we were pouring our collective enthusiams into the pool & becoming energized by the zeitgeist. APT 6 was a peak of this.
There's probably better documentation of this somewhere but whether it'll ever be shared with the public is doubtful. So, here we have it, my cheap Instamatic camera photos, my cheap cassette recorder audio, my scans of the few paper relics I have, some relevant titles, my memory, Alan Lord's memory - there's not much to go on. I was so poor at the time that I wore sandals with 2 pairs of wool socks to snow-covered Montréal because all my other shoes had holes in their bottoms. Still, there's so much here anyway: the guerrilla actions, the igloo, the flamings, the electro-pop music, the personal computers, the theorizing, the ATTITUDES.. at least I have footage of my "Practice for Blo-Dart Acupuncture &/or Ear-Piercing" action that I drew a bigger-than-life-size acupuncture chart for, at least I still have copies of the 2 movies of mine that I showed. This was a revolution in progress, a revolution largely unnoticed by the vast majority, but a revolution nonetheless. I could have made the visuals more flashy but I prefer the rawness of the photographs held for long periods. For me, the feeling is still there. No doubt these will mean considerably less to others, the charge to be stimulated is mostly in the minds of the people who were there at the time or in the rare like-minded individuals.
